SONOHYSTEROGRAPHY

We Are The World’s Largest Provider Of Sonohysterography Services.

Your doctor has referred you to our clinic for a sonohysterogram. This ultrasound examination provides considerable information about your uterus and fallopian tubes, without the use of x-rays, x-ray dye, or an anesthetic.

Indications for this are numerous and may include: irregular vaginal bleeding, infertility, miscarriages, any suspected abnormalities of the uterus, or as a preliminary evaluation for in-vitro fertilization. You will have preliminary scans of your pelvis before the test.

The procedure itself takes 2-5 minutes. A thin catheter is placed through the cervix into the uterus. Normal saline (a salt water solution) is instilled through the catheter in order to allow us to see the inside of the uterus and check the fallopian tubes.

During the procedure you may feel some cramping as the saline is instilled. Some patients have stated that there has been slight discomfort during the catheter placement; however, most patients tolerate it easily. After the test, you may resume your normal activities. Please be advised to bring a sanitary napkin on the day of your appointment.

While this procedure is very safe and gentle, especially in our hands, there is a less than 1% chance of excessive bleeding, abdominal pain, or infection. If there is sufficient concern, seek medical attention.

Take 2 Advil One Hour Prior To The Test.

The Advil is not for pain, but rather to relax your muscles. This test is performed without the use of radiation and does not require anesthetic. It has become the “gold standard” in assessing the causes of uterine bleeding and for infertility. Our centre has a proven track record in the performance of this procedure and True North Imaging has performed more than 100,000 of these procedures in Ontario.
